The Parents' and Staff Association (PSA)

The PSA

The aim of the Parents’ and Staff Association is to enhance the school community and raise funds to support student enrichment.

The PSA has an active committee with both parent and staff representatives who work closely with each other to support the school, staff and the wider KGS community.

The PSA organise a number of events throughout the year ranging from the traditional big events to smaller activities. These social events generally generate an income each year which can enhance the learning of the students by purchasing items the school would otherwise be unable to provide.  Examples include specialist IT equipment, high grade DT products and fieldwork tools.  The PSA has also funded books for every incoming First Year student as part of the 'Big Read'.

Getting involved

There are many ways for parents to get involved from helping at events, providing raffle prizes, becoming a Class Rep, taking part at the Quiz Night or buying a ticket to an event. The PSA welcomes all contributions no matter how big or small.

Become a class rep!

One of the best initial ways to get involved is to volunteer as a class rep for your child’s form group. Class reps are integral to the success of both the PSA and KGS Community.

Being a class rep is a fantastic way to meet other parents and get settled into the school quickly – and it really isn’t very onerous.

The main aim is to encourage a sense of community in your form and to keep them informed of PSA activities and events. You will liaise with other year reps about social meet ups, help organise volunteers at school events such as the Christmas Market, Quiz nights, and pass on PSA communications to your classes. There is more information about the rep role below.

As a class rep, you will have the opportunity to meet other First-Year reps, PSA committee members and members of KGS Staff in the first or second week of term at the Welcome Drinks at school.

Suggested activities for a Class Rep:

  • Attend PSA Welcome Meeting in the Autumn Term and any additional Class Rep Meetings as advertised (usually no more than two or three a year).
  • Encourage the social cohesion of the class and year group by possibly organising coffee mornings, year-group social events and welcoming new pupils and parents.
  • Supporting the PSA by rallying the class to attend PSA events e.g. Quiz Night, KGS Open Days and helping us recruit volunteer parents to help out.
  • Helping organise PSA social events such as the Christmas Fair and Quiz Night and encouraging your form/house to attend via Classlist reminders.
  • Supporting the House System by ensuring relevant KGS House Events e.g. House Drama, House Music, House Dance and the many inter-house sporting events are advertised to the class so the children can be encouraged to both participate in and support the variety of House Events on offer.
  • Attending the bi-annual ‘Meet the Head’ Meetings to discuss year group specific subjects. Minutes from these meetings will be sent to all parents via the PSA.

  • It will allow all members to message other parents easily.
  • It enables the class reps to communicate events directly to the parent body.
  • You can purchase tickets to KGS events.
  • Eliminates the need to receive communication which is not applicable to you.
