Academically, our Sixth Form is very strong. Students choose from 23 subjects at A level and Pre-U, and are encouraged to enhance their knowledge and range of interests through independent study. All students attend a fortnightly Sixth Form lecture, and the Lower Sixth students can participate in the Academic Enrichment programme where they undertake options such as an Extended Project Qualification, AS Critical Thinking, GCSE Italian, an Introduction to Thermodynamics, an NVQ in Leadership & Management, MOOCs and Open University online courses. At A level last year, the Upper Sixth achieved over80% pass-rate at grade A* - B, including 50% at A*/A. Last year 79% of our students went to Russell Group universities, and on average 10% of our cohort attain Oxbridge places. The most popular university subjects last year were Business, Biology, Modern Languages, Medicine, Psychology, Engineering and Economics, and the favourite university choices were Nottingham, Newcastle, Manchester and Birmingham.
We are renowned for our success in Hockey and Rowing, and for our superb Music, Art and Drama departments. However, all students are given the opportunity to excel in their chosen areas of interest, and to find their place in the School and outside communities by undertaking voluntary Community Service. Sixth Form students are role models within the School, and ambassadors outside it. It is expected that they rise to the challenge, and set a good example for the younger students in their commitment, dress and demeanour.
We hope that past students look back on their time in the Sixth Form with fondness, and see it as a pivotal point in their education where they developed the resilience, life skills and personal qualities to be articulate, well-informed and independent individuals.
