The Preparatory Form (Year 6) is a self contained unit with a class teacher, though specialist teaching is provided in Science, Music, French, IT and Design Technology. In all subjects there is liaison between the Preparatory Form teacher and Heads of Departments.
By the Third Form (Year 9), English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, a Modern Language (French, German or Spanish), Geography, History, Design and Technology and SMQ (Spiritual and Moral Questions) are compulsory. Pupils then opt for two from the following list: Art, Music, Latin, RS, German, Spanish and French.
At GCSE English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, the three separate Sciences and at least one language are taken by all, together with three choices from French, German, Spanish, Latin, RS, History, Geography, Drama, Art, Design and Technology and Music. Some pupils proceed to an Additional Mathematics course in the Fifth Form (Year 11). In this way we believe that the fundamental knowledge and skills, which all pupils need in the modern world, can be fostered, and that they will have a broad experience of Languages and Technology, as well as an understanding of man in the context of history, ideas or the physical environment. Within these areas of learning pupils are, however, given choice and flexibility to meet their talents and interests.

Curriculum

In their early years at KGS, pupils are given a broad and exciting introduction to many areas of learning and experience. At the heart of the Curriculum are the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and a Modern Language (pupils study French in the First Form and add German in the Second Form). First Form (Year 7) pupils also take Geography, History, Latin, Music, RS, Art, Design and Technology, ICT and Drama, PE and Games.
Further subjects are added to the curriculum at AS and A level: Economics, Business Studies, Politics, Sports Studies, Theatre Studies, Classical Civilisation, Psychology and Further Mathematics. Pupils will usually take four subjects at AS level, and three (possibly four) at A level.
