Cameron Spurling - National Champion!
Fourth Former Cameron Spurling is the latest in a proud tradition of KGS athletes to be crowned national champions.
There were some tremendous performances from KGS students
On Sunday 8th February a group of 15 KGS students made the journey to the Olympic Velodrome in Stratford to compete in the British Rowing Indoor Rowing Championships. The team consisted of eight girls and seven boys from the Third and Fourth Years. The Indoor Rowing Championships saw competition across age groups from Year 7 right up to the 85 – 89 category! The stars of British Rowing were there in force, with Mohamed Sbihi, who came and spoke at the Boat Club dinner in 2013, winning the men’s title in the fastest time of the day, and the students relished the opportunity to meet some of the rowers who are training for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
There were some tremendous performances from KGS students with Zoe Barnard coming 15th out of 68 competitors in the Girls’ Year 10 category whilst in the Girls’ Year 9 category Charlotte Smith finished 8th and Stacey Kozhevnikova 10th from 52 competitors. The best performances came from the Year 10 boys, however, with all four entrants in the top half of the competition and Cameron Spurling topping the leader board to win gold and his first national title!
Huge congratulations to Cameron and the rest of the team and thanks to Mr Smalman-Smith and Ms Clifford for taking the students to Stratford for the event.
