Beyond the classroom

At Kingston Grammar School, our motto is ‘Work Well and Be Happy’. We believe that academic success and personal fulfilment go hand in hand, and that students thrive when they achieve a healthy balance between their studies and the wide range of opportunities available beyond the classroom.

Our co-curricular programme complements academic learning and plays an important role in bringing our Character Education curriculum to life. Through participation in sport, music, drama, clubs and societies, students develop and practise the skills and attributes that underpin our approach to education.

Developing character

These experiences encourage the growth of qualities such as leadership, teamwork, resilience, creativity, confidence, communication, compassion and curiosity – not in isolation, but through active involvement in school life.

A wide range of opportunities

Students can take part in a wide range of activities, from major drama productions and music ensembles to House competitions, debating, design challenges and clubs across a broad range of interests. Opportunities such as Duke of Edinburgh, Model United Nations, Young Enterprise and an extensive programme of trips and tours allow students to develop independence, broaden their perspectives and explore new ideas.

Student leadership

Many activities are student-led, giving older students the opportunity to take on leadership roles and mentor younger students. Whether choreographing House Dance, leading teams, running a Young Enterprise company or organising House events, students learn to collaborate, take responsibility and contribute positively to the school community.

Something for everyone

Opportunities are available to students of all ages and abilities. Whether pursuing a long-standing passion or trying something new, co-curricular life at KGS offers a supportive and stimulating environment in which students can flourish.
