At Kingston Grammar School, our pastoral and PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) programme sits alongside the academic curriculum to support every student’s social, emotional and physical development.
A holistic approach

Led by our Senior Wellbeing and Mental Health Lead, Head of PSHE, and Designated Safeguarding Lead, the programme helps students navigate the challenges of adolescence, build resilience and develop healthy relationships and strong personal values.

Our pastoral care aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Topics include:

  • Mental health and emotional wellbeing
  • Healthy relationships, consent and inclusion
  • Online safety and digital responsibility
  • Substance use, risk awareness and decision-making
  • Citizenship, diversity and equality
  • Healthy lifestyles, diet, sleep and exercise

“Without exception, those spoken to feel this is a kind school where unkindness is never acceptable.”

Learning beyond the classroom

Each year group follows a carefully sequenced programme of lessons, talks and workshops delivered by trained staff and expert external speakers. These sessions evolve annually to reflect current issues relevant to young people today.

Partnership with parents

Our pastoral work extends to the whole community. We run a series of popular parent information evenings, covering topics such as relationships and sex education, digital life, misogyny and mental health. These events provide practical guidance and strengthen the home–school partnership that supports every child’s wellbeing.

A kind, connected community

Kindness underpins all we do. Working closely with our Kindness Council, we promote respect, empathy and inclusivity throughout school life. Guided by our motto, Work Well and Be Happy, our aim is simple – to help every student understand themselves, support others and flourish.
