Wellbeing

At KGS, we are deeply committed to supporting the wellbeing of every student and member of staff in our school. Our school motto, Work Well and Be Happy, reflects our core belief: that success is only possible when students are supported in both their mental and physical wellbeing. We understand that a student’s emotional health is the foundation for happiness, academic achievement and personal growth.

A whole-school commitment

We recognise that mental, emotional and physical health are interconnected – and equally important. Promoting positive mental health is a shared responsibility, and we all have a role to play in creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.  Wellbeing is at the heart of life at KGS. We offer individualised support for all students and deliver a robust programme of talks, workshops and initiatives that raise awareness, reduce stigma and equip our community with the tools to care for their mental health.

Pastoral care and specialist support

All staff play an active role in the pastoral care and wellbeing of our students. Many have completed Youth Mental Health First Aid training, and we regularly host INSET days focused on mental health education and wellbeing strategies for both staff and students. Regular pastoral forums with students help shape our provision, and our dedicated pastoral team is supported by two school counsellors and a school nurse.

Wellbeing in Action

Students engage with wellbeing throughout their PSHE curriculum, exploring a wide range of topics related to mental health and emotional wellbeing. These lessons are enriched by guest speakers, workshops, and tutor group discussions. Students also participate in national and international awareness events such as Mental Health Awareness Week, Anti-Bullying Week and Pride Month and benefit from peer support through our Lower Sixth mentors. Senior Prefects and Captains lead assemblies and Tutor Time activities and help organise whole-school events that promote wellbeing and inclusion.

Our School Parliament gives Sixth Form students a platform to represent student voice, and our anonymous ‘Report It’ button ensures that all students have a safe way to raise concerns.

Working in partnership with parents

We also work closely with parents, offering a variety of talks, workshops and seminars on mental health and wellbeing, including sessions aligned with our PSHE curriculum. Parent forums provide valuable insights that help us better understand and serve our community.
