DRAMA AND THEATRE

KGS has excellent facilities for Drama and Theatre: a modern 200-seat theatre with a versatile Green Room, and a fully equipped Drama Studio. Performance opportunities include the Lower School Play, the Upper School Play and the Sixth Form Play. The annual House Drama competition is one of the highlights of the school year, involving over 120 students. In the Sixth Form, there is also the opportunity to perform in the KGS Theatre Company at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe. For students interested in design and technical theatre, we have a Senior Technical Club as well as opportunities for performance support. For those interested in dance, we hold an annual House Dance competition, and Sixth Form students have the opportunity to contribute to running the Junior Drama Club.

LAMDA CLASSES

The London Academy of Dramatic Art has an examining board and syllabus allowing teachers to enter students for acting exams with a grading system that runs from entry level, for younger students, through to Bronze, Silver and Gold medal awards.

In recent years, the LAMDA exam board has gained full recognition from the academic world and the higher grades can be used as a valid way of earning points on the UCAS university entry system.

For more information, visit the LAMDA website: www.lamda.org.uk/exams

WHAT ARE THE CLASSES LIKE?

The classes will be held after school with the option of your child either being taught solo for 40 minutes (subject to space availability) or working as part of a duo with another student who is at the same grade level. This environment ensures that sufficient attention can be given to each student. At the end of the course the exams will be held in school on Saturday 28 February 2026, organised and stewarded by the LAMDA teachers.  Parents and friends will also be invited to an evening presentation of the students’ LAMDA performances in the Theatre.  This usually takes place on the first Monday after exams.

The LAMDA teachers will introduce themselves to new students and answer any questions after school on Wednesday 1 October in the Green Room. The meeting will take no longer than 15 minutes.

Your child would have to commit to a series of 10 lessons (Grades 1 to 5), to be entered for an examination. Bronze, Silver and Gold medallist applicants will require 11 lessons. Lessons will be timetabled and both parents and students will be notified at the outset by email, reinforced via the Drama noticeboard, school website and the students’ LAMDA Diary.

FEES

Solo lessons will cost £48.00 per lesson and Duologue lessons £33.00 per lesson. Lessons will be held at the following times: 3.50pm, 4.35pm and 5.20pm, Monday to Friday. Whilst every endeavour is made to give the students their preferred time, due to the popularity of the course it is not always possible. We do try to give the earlier slots to the younger students.

The total cost of the LAMDA classes (excluding exam charge) is as follows:

10 Solo lessons (Grade 1-5) £480.00

11 Solo lessons (Grade 6, 7 and 8 – Bronze, Silver and Gold medals) £528.00

10 Duologue lessons (Grade 1-5) £330.00

11 Duologue lessons (Grade 6, 7 and 8 – Bronze, Silver and Gold medals) £363.00

You will be invoiced on the commencement of the first lesson.  The fees are to be paid no later than the third class, directly to the LAMDA teachers.
